Seasonal Tips
From Busy Bee

Lawn Maintenance
No matter who cares for your lawn, it is important to make sure weeds and debris stay out of your HVAC system in order to prolong its life. So, be sure to keep grass and clippings away from your condenser!
When air flow is blocked by debris like tall grass or grass clippings, the system has to work much harder to move air through your home. This puts extra stress on the motor, shortening its lifespan!
Salty Seas Mean Corrosion
One of the best parts about living in Coastal North Carolina is that the beach is just minutes away, but homeowner's here know its not always a day at the beach.
Salty sea air is blown inland and settles on homes and cars alike, leading to increased corrosion. Your HVAC system is no different, though it does seem to take more of a beating from the salt--Busy Bee recommends hosing down your system regularly to rinse off salt, especially if you live on the Island or within a few blocks of the water. Or all us and ask about installing a patent-pending HVAC Wash Station.

Dirty Filters
Air flow is key to keeping your home comfortable no matter the season. One of the easiest solutions to fix poor air flow is to change your HVAC filters monthly.
As dirt and allergens get trapped in the filter, the system has to work harder to push air through the filter, causing the system to struggle over time, shortening its lifespan.
Filters also remove dust, dander, pollen, and other allergens from your home, helping you avoid allergies, respiratory illnesses, and reducing moisture build up through your home!
Storms & Lightning
When lightning strikes near a power line, it sends high voltage trailing down the wires that can cause a power surge that can damage home electronics or even damage your entire home panel!
Busy Bee offers surge protectors for HVAC equipment, but there are many options available to protect your home. Whole home surge protectors can be a great way to prevent storm damage to your home caused by lightning. If you're interested, please give Busy Bee a call to discuss whether a whole home surge protector might be beneficial for your home!
